What an action‑packed year it has been! I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped make our recent events such a tremendous success. The enthusiasm of our attendees, the dedication of our volunteers, and the generosity of our sponsors have created meaningful opportunities for future STEM leaders and have strengthened our Central Florida defense community.

We’re excited to keep this momentum going with new programs and engagement opportunities that elevate professionals across our industry and broaden pathways for the next generation. We’re excited to announce the launch of the new Women In Defense Central Florida Chapter website—an important step in strengthening our digital presence and expanding how we connect with our community. The refreshed platform highlights our mission, showcases upcoming events, and gives members easier access to resources, scholarship information, and opportunities to get involved. This go‑live reflects months of collaboration and a shared commitment to creating a modern, accessible space that captures the energy and growth of our chapter. We invite members, partners, and supporters to explore the site and celebrate this milestone for WID CFL.

Beyond the Horizon:

Field Training Teams: Fueling Performance and Speed

MAY 14, 2026

On May 14, Women In Defense hosted an engaging virtual session titled “Beyond the Horizon,” featuring Denese Cordaro, WarU Professor and Vice President of WID San Diego. Denese introduced attendees to the value of Field Training Teams and how Warfighting Acquisition University supports programs during critical acquisition moments. The discussion highlighted mission‑focused Field Training Services, just‑in‑time training, and the Base Camp Field Training Team model as tools for accelerating outcomes. Through real‑world pilot use cases and lessons learned, Denese shared innovative approaches that help defense professionals navigate acquisition challenges with greater agility and alignment.

May 2026 Coffee and Connections

On May 12, WID CFL brought together an incredible group of professionals for our inaugural Coffee and Connection. What began as a casual networking meetup quickly became a space for open idea‑sharing, meaningful conversations, and new opportunities. New partnerships formed, insights were exchanged, and relationships began taking shape even before the first PALT session started. A special thank‑you to UCF College of Business and FAIRWINDS Credit Union for sponsoring this event and helping create such a positive atmosphere. Community and connection remain at the heart of everything we do. Don’t miss our next one in July!

Bowling for STEM Scholarships​

On April 29, the Women In Defense Central Florida Chapter hosted its annual Bowling for STEM Scholarships fundraiser, bringing together industry partners, community leaders, and supporters for an evening dedicated to empowering the next generation of STEM talent.  Attendees bowled, networked, and championed a mission that strengthens the future defense and technology workforce. Every frame and conversation contributed directly to STEM scholarships that help students pursue high‑demand careers. On April 8, 2026, Women In Defense – Central Florida Chapter hosted a virtual session with Dr. Renea Skelton, Communication Expert, Author, Speaker, and True Colors® Master Trainer. Her talk, “From Likeable to Trusted: How Real Professional Relationships Are Built,” explored the foundations of trust and offered practical strategies to strengthen how we connect, communicate, and lead. Attendees gained insight into behaviors that build credibility, foster authentic relationships, and elevate influence beyond likability. The session provided actionable tools members can apply immediately, reinforcing WID CFL’s commitment to leadership development and stronger collaboration across the defense community.

2026 I/ITSEC Abstract Review​

On April 2, 2026, Women In Defense Central Florida Chapter had a strong presence at the I/ITSEC Abstract Review, where several board members contributed their expertise to help shape the future of training and simulation. By collaborating with industry leaders, reviewing emerging concepts, and engaging in innovation‑focused discussions, they reinforced WID CFL’s role in advancing the defense community. Beyond the review sessions, members joined networking activities—including golf, pickleball, and a tour of the Fort Worth Stockyards—strengthening relationships and representing WID CFL with enthusiasm and professionalism. We are proud of their impact and look forward to the insights that will emerge at this year’s I/ITSEC.

Inaugural Coffee and Connections

On March 11, WID CFL hosted its inaugural Coffee and Connections, bringing together nearly 75 professionals for a morning of meaningful conversations and new relationships. The energy in the room made it clear that Central Florida has a strong, collaborative community committed to leadership and advancing our mission. A special thank‑you to Cole Engineering Services, Inc. (CESI), a By Light Company, for generously hosting and providing coffee and breakfast. We also extend our thanks to VIP attendees BG Christine Beeler, COL Anthony Graham, and COL Wynndee Young for supporting this milestone event. CPAG Defense Forum Breakfast

On February 20, 2026, the Combined Professional Associations Group (CPAG), in partnership with AFCEA Orlando and Women In Defense – Central Florida Chapter, hosted the 2026 Defense Forum Breakfast, bringing together senior military leaders, industry professionals, and members of Central Florida’s defense community for a timely and engaging discussion. The program featured insights from Brig. Gen. Christine Brewer, Capt. Jedediah J. Magda, Col. Anthony C. Graham, and Col. Wynndee Young. Held at Partnership 4 in Orlando, the event provided a valuable forum for collaboration, shared expertise, and dialogue on the evolving needs of the warfighter. Strong attendance underscored the importance of cross‑community engagement and our region’s commitment to advancing innovation and readiness.

On January 28, 2026, Women In Defense – Central Florida and Space Coast Chapters proudly participated in SPACECOM 2026, held in Orlando. Members from across Central Florida—and from WID chapters nationwide—connected with leaders in government, industry, and academia to discuss the rapidly evolving space domain and its growing importance in national defense. The event offered a dynamic platform for meaningful conversations, new partnerships, and increased visibility for the Central Florida defense community.

WID Beyond the Horizon Webinar Series
Arctic Operations: How Space-based Capabilities Can Support Arctic Missions

In the Arctic region, space capabilities that support navigation and timing, communications, and remote sensing will be vital in establishing persistent situational awareness while connecting and informing defense, commercial, and civilian interests. Over the past few years, a proliferation of existing and proposed commercial space capabilities in the High North have offered connectivity services across multiple orbits. This presentation will examine growing complexities in the region—e.g., increased geopolitical rivalry, overlapping territorial claims, shifting alliances, and growing polarization among and between major global powers—and recommends sharing capabilities and flexible architectures that offer economy, security, and user flexibility for the United States and its allies.
